We
all know noise
is unwanted
sound. Then
how about this?
If
a tree falls in
a forest, which
nobody hears,
does it make a
noise? The answer
is ‘no’?
Correct because
sound is not noise
unless one hears
it and finds it
annoying.
However, if a
chopper is flying
close by while
you’re doing
a terrace concert
does it make noise?
The answer is
obvious - not
just for those
at the concert,
but for those
in the chopper
too, despite they
donning anti-noise
headphones! |

It
will be the same
situation when
a two- or four-wheeler,
without silencer,
whizzes past,
or grinder in
the kitchen, or
a cutting machine
in a manufacturing
plant ... one
can go on and
on!
It’s a situation
of ‘active
noise.’
How do we control
it? With active
anti-noise! Now
what’s that?
