Woodwool boards have been around for more than a hundred years. Their timeless appeal lies in

• simplicity – wood and cement are blended to create a cellular, rigid board

• natural materials – magnesite is the eight most abundant mineral on earth, wood is a renewable resource that will last forever, if socially used

• low-embedded energy use – the chemical reaction is exothermic and hence no energy is required except for operations

• breathing interiors – the multicellular structure creates a breathing medium that balances the indoor temperature and humidity

• energy-saving spaces – wherever woodwool board is used it controls temperature and hence saves energy

• durable, rugged – woodwool board supplied by us in 80s is still in use! 30 years and counting!

• universal appeal – woodwool board is used across the world – USA, Europe, West Asia, China etc – and now Euro Norms ensure international quality

The second in our series on 20 fab features of Anutone’s Ekcel
Magnesite chunks are mined from the best of dunite rocks in South India and North-east China/North Korea, lightly calcined in oil-fired kilns to 900oC, sorted and pulverized to 200 mesh size, ready for the next process of blending with other chemicals and wood fibres.

Magnesite cement at Anutone’s Ekcel plant is 85 grade purity and conforms to IS 657. This ensures natural whiteness, strength and durability.

EN 13168 is the global standard on factorymade woodwool boards. The standard is made up of many smaller standards. The second in the series is:

EN 823 – Determination of thickness - Pistol Vernier Calliper Method
The board under test is conditioned to ambient temperature & humidity and placed on a stand. Calibrated contact plates are placed on either side at designated positions and
m e a s u r e m e n t s

recorded with the pistol vernier calliper.

Thickness - At Anutone’s Ekcel plant the required thickness is maintained
to + 0.5mm with the s o p h i s t i c a t e d double sided surface planning machine and hence exceeds EN standards.
